Alex Marino

Improv to Sketch

Alex Marino (Magnet Theater, The Daily Show)

Writing is harder than improv, and usually not as good. If only there were some way to harness the power, energy, and collaborative spirit of improv in a way that could fuel comedy writing (you know where I’m going with this). Bring a notebook or your laptop and we’ll see how to mine any improv scene for brilliant gems of inspiration, and develop totally unique sketches in collaboration with a bunch of folks you may have only just met.

About Alex

Alex Marino is a writer and actor, known for The Daily Show, Yes And… and M.A.S.

Holly Laurent

More Fun (SOLD-OUT)

Holly Laurent (The Reckoning, Second City)

Many of our improv habits are based in what we believe we should do instead of what makes it feel fun. This workshop targets scenic moves that remove over-thinking and replace it with more organic initiations to isolate joyful play and instant agreement. MORE FUN emphasizes playing smarter, riskier and more confidently by focusing on great edits, stronger scenes, and savvy long form moves. We will wipe out the pressure, planning and judgement that weigh down your play and pursue funny and compelling scenes that feel easy and way more fun.

About Holly

Holly Laurent is a member of the longstanding improv group The Reckoning and is a consulting writer for The Onion News Network. As a cast member of the Second City main stage in Chicago she wrote and performed in their past three revues Southside of Heaven, Who Do We Think We Are, and Let Them Eat Chaos. She trained at iO Chicago, the Annoyance Theater, 500 Clown, and toured with the Second City touring company. Holly holds a M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College and teaches improv everywhere.
