There’s always something happening in the quiet parts of a scene. And that ‘something,’ whatever it is, is usually exactly what the scene is actually about. But improvisers aren’t always comfortable being quiet onstage. We tend to freak out in negative space and want to fill it in with all kinds of unnecessary made up stuff. This workshop is about cultivating a sense for quiet, befriending subtext, and finding the pleasure and surprise in leaving things (mostly) unsaid.

Louis Kornfeld is a writer/actor/director and veteran ensemble member at the Magnet Theater in New York City, where he can be seen performing his weekly duo show “Kornfeld & Andrews.”  He’s created and developed numerous improvisational formats including The Blackout, Story Story, and The Acid Trip, and spent three years as Managing Director of Megawatt at the Magnet Theater. He also appeared as a cast member with the Second City as part of their partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line, back in the day. Louis has written forty episodes for the highly regarded podcast ‘The Truth,’ including the Sarah Award winning ‘The Man in the Barn.’
